The MRI scanner is a Philips Medical Systems INTERA 1.0 Tesla superconducting machine which was installed in September 2002. A wide range of MR receiver coils is available for dedicated scanning of all regions. The scanner is also provided with a Philips Easy Vision workstation for more detailed analysis of the scans by our Consultant Radiologists. This includes 3-D scanning, MR angiography and multiplanar reformatting. Scans are printed onto standard 35x43cm film. Digital data is archived onto optical disc for future retrieval if necessary.  This ensures that previous scans are always available for comparison and that further films can be reprinted if necessary, e.g. for onward referral to another clinician.
